About the Archive

Thanks for visiting the Revenge Radio Archive. This site is run by a writer and music fanatic based in Melbourne, Australia. My life long love of music and photography has in recent years culminated in a passion for collecting music publicity photos. Rather than restrict the display of this collection to the walls of my suburban abode I’ve decided to share and showcase it online. In doing so this site has become an online image resource for magazine editors and music nerds alike, providing visual slices of music history from the forgotten to the famous.

About Press Publicity Photos
Prior to the digital age, record labels and artist representatives routinely issued 8×10 inch black and white photographs to print media outlets for editorial use. They were usually issued with press releases to promote a band or artist’s latest release or tour. You will find these photos in magazines, newspapers, posters, flyers and zines from around the time they were issued. These days publicity photos are released in digital format, leaving little need for printed black and white photos. With this method of image distribution now largely redundant, the 8×10 photos of old have become increasingly desired by music collectors.

What’s in the Archive?
The collection is varied, reflecting my varied taste. The main focus of the collection is Black Flag, SST Records and Henry Rollins. There are also many photos of Sonic Youth, Living Colour, L7 and Australian acts such as Nick Cave, Midnight Oil and many more.
